Parízek meets with OSCE High Commissioner Zannier on the situation of national minorities in Slovakia and preparations for Slovakia´s OSCE Chairmanship
State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Lukáš Parízek, received Lamberto Zannier, High Commissioner on National Minorities for the Organization for Security and Co-Operation in Europe (OSCE), in Bratislava on Monday (26 February 2018). During the meeting they discussed issues in the common field of activities of the OSCE and the Office of the High Commissioner on National Minorities in the region of member countries. They agreed on further close coordination and cooperation in relation to the preparations for Slovakia’s Chairmanship of the OSCE in 2019.
The working visit by the High Commissioner is part of a follow-up visit that was made by the previous OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, Astrid Thors, in 2016 as well as to establish personal contacts with representatives of Slovakia responsible for managing the country’s minority policy.
During his stay in Slovakia OSCE High Commissioner Zannier also talked about current developments regarding the national minorities in Slovakia with representatives of the appropriate ministries as well as the government’s proxies for national minorities and Roma communities.
