Slovakia Symbolically Assumes OSCE Chairmanship

Today (7 December), the Italian chairmanship of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) was symbolically handed over to Slovakia which will take over the leadership in the organisation in only three weeks from now, on 1 January 2019. Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic will be replacing Enzo Moavero Milanesi, the OSCE’s Chairman-in-Office and Head of the Italian diplomatic service.

Rozhodnutie podať demisiu na svoju funkciu som prijal nie kvôli migrácii, ale kvôli tomu, že som presvedčený, že je na škodu Slovenska a jeho občanov, keď našim diplomatom nie je dovolené byť za stolom, kde sa diskutuje o veciach, ktoré sa nás týkajú. Bol som a zostávam presvedčený, že uznesenie NR SR o odmietnutí byť súčasťou spoločného úsilia riešiť migráciu nie je správne. Svoje rozhodnutie som prijal úprimne, pretože som ho považoval za správne. Obrovské množstvo ľudí zo Slovenska i zo zahraničia mi vyjadrilo silnú podporu.

OSCE Ministerial Council Launched in Milan

Today (6 December 2018) the two-day 25th Ministerial session of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) was launched in Milan. Slovakia is represented by Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, and Lukáš Parízek, State Secretary and the Minister’s Envoy for the preparation of Slovakia’s OSCE Chairmanship.

State Secretary Ružička Offers His Condolences at the US Embassy

František Ružička, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, offered his condolences on the death of George H. W. Bush, 41st President of the United States of America, today (6 December 2018) at the Embassy of the United States of America to the Slovak Republic.

Current Security Threats in Focus during the NATO Foreign Affairs Ministerial Meeting

František Ružička, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, represented Slovakia at the regular autumn NATO foreign affairs ministerial meeting on 4 December 2018. The session started with the discussion between the Alliance and the partners from Georgia and Ukraine. The talks confirmed the ongoing strong support of the allies for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of their partners. The foreign affairs ministers of Georgia and Ukraine detailed the current developments in the Azov Sea and the Kerch Strait and drew attention to the destabilizing activities by Russia. They deemed the situation to be extremely serious. In his address, State Secretary Ružička conveyed Slovakia’s concerns and called for a de-escalation of tensions as soon as possible and for a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
